This post is HUGE. You might want to read it only when you have plenty of time.

Due to the high influx of players wanting to know more about the Awakening process, I decided to cut short their lack of skill in forum search by doing this thread.

Here I'll try to write down and answer the more accurately I can all the questions that people keep asking I can recall.

Please, refer this post anytime someone asks you something about the Awakening Process. It will short your time greatly.

NOTE: Every data format is defaulted to the United States standard. I don't like it, but it keeps the FAQ global.

0. Versions

3. Abbreviations

As I try to answer the questions, you might find some words / acronyms that you might not know. Here is a list of the most asked:

GoD : Goddess of Destruction, the next update to hit the North American Servers yet this year (I hope).
Awakening (and derived words) : Related to the 4th class transfer, a new feature that comes in GoD.
Race (and derived words) : Related the 6 main races of Lineage 2 (namely Human, Elf, DarkElf, Dwarf, Orc and Kamael).
NCI : NC Interactive, NC Soft Western Branch. Run the Chronos and Naia Servers and is bound to NC Soft Korea, the creators of this game.
Innova : Lineage 2 Russian resseller. Owns the rights for Lineage 2 in Russia and, more recently, in the Europe Union. It is independent from NC Soft Korea.

4. The Unofficial FAQ

Q: What is "The Awakening"?
A: "The Awakening" is the name given to the character's 4th class transfer. It occurs at the level 85 and will be implemented with the GoD update.

Q: What are the new classes and which current class transfer to which new one?
A: There will be 8 new classes and they represent the 8 main types of role that exists in Lineage 2. Here is a LIST:
Quote: Originally Posted by Awakening Classes

Classes that transfer to Tyrr Warrior: Duelist, Dreadnought, Titan, Grand Khavatari, Maestro and Doombringer.
Yul Archer: Represent the Archer role and are the source of ranged physical power. They are masters in Bows and traps. Can summon a Hawk to help.
Classes that transfer to Yul Archer: Sagittarius, Moonlight Sentinel, Ghost Sentinel and Trickster.
Sigel Knight: Represent the Knight / Tanker role and are the defensive wall of all parties. They are masters in Shields and Defensive Power of all sorts. Can summon a Golden Lion to attack and help. They have a minor disable and Hate-like skills.
Classes that transfer to Sigel Knight: Phoenix Knight, Hell Knight, Eva's Templar and Shilien Templar.
Othell Rouge: Represent the Dagger / Assassin role and are the main damage dealers for physical damage, given their high attack speed and critical hit chances. They are masters in Daggers and Dual Daggers and have the highest evasion and stealth skills to kill fast and silently. Can steal items from monsters.
Classes that transfer to Othell Rouge: Adventurer, Wind Rider, Ghost Hunter and Fortune Seeker.
Feoh Wizard: Represent the Wizard / Offensive Magic role and are the ones to cause Ranged Magic Damage. They are master in Staves and Magic weapons and have the highest Magic Attack. Can attack with the 4 elements (one at a time) and their skill's effects are determined by the Element Stance active at the moment the spell is cast.
Classes that transfer to Feoh Wizard: Archmage, Soultaker, Mystic Muse, Storm Screamer and Soul Hound.
Wynn Summoner: Represent the Summoner role and are the ones that can call servitors from other realms (Either Beast, Fairy or Demon). They are masters in handling summons and can control lots of servitors at once. Summons can either attack, assist, buff, de-buff or tank. All depends on the servitor called.
Classes that transfer to Wynn Summoner: Arcana Lord, Elemental Master and Spectral Master.
Aeore Healer: Represent the Healer / Supportive Magic role and are the source of regeneration and de-buff cleasing. They are masters in healing abilities and have minor buffs. Can summon a Tree of light and a Warrior of light, giving support in many ways. They also have a minor Offensive Magic.
Classes that transfer to Aeore Healer: Cardinals, Eva's Saint and Shillien Saint.
Iss Enchanter: Represent the Supportive Empower / Buffer role and are the main source for buff skills. They are masters in Dual Swords and Dual-Blunts (New type of weapon being introduced in GoD). Can buff an entire party in a few seconds and have a great physical attack potential.
Classes that transfer to Iss Enchanter: Hierophant, Doomcryer, Sword Muse, Spectral Dancer and Dominator.

Q: Pretty, pretty choices! But do any of these classes have affinity to any particular element? If so which for what?(asked by SoulMagic; humor and adaptation by me)
A: Aside from the Element Stances for the Feoh Wizard, the classes aren't bound to any element at all. If you check the lore, it will say that the warriors, when awakening, get in touch with the Giant's Power. That means all their former sources of energy are changed to the Giant's Knowledge, so all affinities are thrown away. The best example is the Cardinal -> Aeore Healer transfer: The Cardinal prays for Einhasad and her light, thus why Cardinal Spells are Holy. Aeore Healer, however, uses the ancient power from the Giant Laksis and even have an Offensive Spell that's not Holy and can be enchanted to be Dark or Holy, being naturally Neutral.

Q: Talking about the best to each class, is there any specific weapon that's the best for each class?(asked by SoulMagic, adaptation by me)
A: Actually, each class has its specific mastery. Summoners get Summon Mastery, allowing multiple servitors, for example. When it comes to weapon masteries, the classes that use more than one type of weapon get a generic mastery to all of them. The weapon chosen will only affect which skills can be used. For example, most of the Tyrr Warrior Stun Skills can't be used by One-Handed Swords while, on the other hand, all cleaving skills are specially made for Polearms. The best Iss Enchanter active skills can only be used with Sword, Blunt, Dual-Sword or Dual-Blunt, but they only have Passive Mastery for Dual-Weapons. There's no such thing as a "best" weapon, it is all tied to your gameplay style and, more precisely, to what's your character's role in each party.

Q: What happen to my character after I transfer to one of these?
A: First, your stats will be adjusted to the correct one for your new class. According to this:
Tyrr Warrior, Yul Archer, Sigel Knight, Othell Rogue and Iss Enchanter: Receive Fighter Stats for your Race
Feoh Wizard, Wynn Summoner and Aeore Healer: Receive Mystic Stats for your Race.
Then you will lose all your current skills and receive a new set of skills from your 2nd and 3rd class (this set is static and may contain skills you hadn't learned or may not contain skills you had learned, doesn't matter), meaning you will lose some skills for good just by Awakening.
While you learn your Awakening skills, some old skills will be removed in order to learn the new one.
After your stats and skills are adjusted, you will receive your Racial Skills. Those skill are bound to the race your character was born with.

Q: What Skills will I lose at the transfer time and when learning new skills?(asked by SoulMagic)
A: There are some lists available online but I haven't found one well translated or in good shape so translators could work about the skill lost at the Awakening. As soon as I get one, I'll update this question. Until there, use this link (in Chinese) Yidao provided. Try using it by the skill's pictures or using the google translator. It is the best we have so far, a handmade list by ChildOfHeaven, a L2TW CM.
As for the skills you lose when learning new skills, you can use the Power Wiki Link on google translator (set from Korean to English) and go browsing on the 4th Class skills. Each Skill description brings a list of which skills are removed. If it lists a skill you don't have, no panic, you can still learn the new one. (WARNING: The translation isn't precise but can give you a GREAT IDEA of what is being removed).
Also, check this link (in Russian, use a translator for better understading) for detailed information on the new classes, including which old skill is removed by each new one (the threads have pictures of the Skill Icons, so you can clearly see what you will lose for each skill).
If you don't see a skill on those lists, there's a great chance it will be staying with you (no Forgotten Scroll Skills are staying).

Q: Racial Stats and Skills? What are those??
A: Upon Awakening, your character will receive Stats according to its new class and bound to its race. It will also learn new Skills based on its Race main traits.
Visit this link to find out what are the stats and, a few lines down, the skills you will learn for each race.
You can also check this link (in Polish, Skill description in English) for a summary that has all Racial and Awakening Skills.
UPDATE: NCI released the official patch notes to the Awakening and Racial Skills. You can find it here and it contains the official effects and names for the skills on our servers.

Q: Is there any way to change what race my main is?(asked by SoulMagic)
A: First of all, it is not your Main race. It is your character race and it determine your look on whatever class you are.
No one can change their race only by game means. You get to choose your race at the Character Creation Time and are bound to that race until you decide to delete your character.
Prior November 2nd 2011, one could have made a SubClass Separation Service into one of his subclasses and have a new character with the desired race, but now the services are off until the update is complete and no one knows what new services will be. So far, no Race Change Service has been unveiled.
Your race choice at your character's creation will define it's looks forever(e.g. even if you created a Human Mystic and Awakened to a Human Tyrr Warrior, your looks will always be those of a Human Mystic).

Q: I can only transfer to one of these classes with my main class?
A: Yes, every 3rd class is bound to one of the 8 classes listed above and can only awake to that one.

Q: You bloody Liar! I heard I can be what ever I can be!
A: Calm down, little bee. I don't know what your therapist has been talking to you but, normally, you can't actually choose your 4th class unless you have a "Stone of Destiny".

Q: Woah, woah! What is a "Stone of Destiny"? I want to have it soooooo much!
A: The "Stone of Destiny" is a special quest item (can't be sold, dropped, transfered) that will be granted to each character whose main class is level 76 (NCI decided to lower this level. No one knows yet which will be the minimum.) or above ONLY at the moment the update goes LIVE and it works in a interesting way.
At the end of the Awakening Quest, you get to commune with your role Giant Statue and you can't commune with the other ones. The "Stone of Destiny" allows you to commune with ANY Giant Statue and, thus, let you transfer to ANY class you desire, provided you have it.
Also, the "Stone of Destiny" will be removed from your character when you awake. Doesn't matter if you awake to your correct class, it will still be removed. It seems that the "Stone of Destiny" is bound to be removed after sometime if not used, as noted here.

Q: A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! But, what happen to my Dwarf when I awaken it to Feoh Wizard? Dwarves have mystic stats??
A: With GoD, all races will have stats for both Mystic and Fighter classes, so every change is possible for those who have the stone to do it.

Q: And what happen with my skills if I transfer to a class that I wasn't meant to? I get to keep my Fortune Seeker skills if my Dwarf awakes to Feoh Wizard??
A: No, you won't keep any skills from your former class. When a character awake to a class he wasn't supposed to, first his stats are adjusted according to the characters RACE (in the example, the Dwarf would indeed receive Dwarf Mystic Stats). Then you will lose all your current skills. After that, you will learn a set of skills from a Human Default Class (Archmage, for the Dwarf in the example) and will also learn your Racial Skills, according to the character Race (In the example, the Dwarf will learn the Dwarf Racial Skills).
Here are the Human Default Classes and their 4th Class:

Wynn Summoner -> Arcana Master
Aeore Healer -> Cardinal
Iss Enchanter -> Hierophant

Q: Someone told be that the max number of players in a party will be reduced from 9 to 7, due to the new classes. Will that affect only awaken characters? How does it work?(asked by satanou, adaptation by me)
A: That's correct. Indeed the max number of party members was reduced to 7 and will affect EVERY PARTY in the whole game, not mattering the level. This would be a problem at first but they made a little tweak: BladeDancer's dances and SwordSinger's songs are getting unified. Both class are getting Rhythm Skills. Those are just the song and the dance of the same level combined (e.g. At level 40, both get a Rhythm Skill that have the effects of "Song of Hunter" and "Dance of Fury" combined). This means that you won't need both in your party anymore.
Apart from this, yes, you will need to learn how to set up parties with less players and make them work. But this is eased with the new experience curve and the new quests, that will carry you over until 85 much more faster than now.

Q: Hummm, I heard I can have new subclasses for free! How is that?
A: At the time the update goes live, each character in the server will receive an item that allows a SubClass Exchange per existing subclass. That means your subclass loses it's stats and skills and receive new ones corresponding to the chosen class and the former level. You won't need to re-level the subclass again.

Q: Does that mean I can have ANY subclass I want?
A: No, for this exchange and also for any new subclass added from the update and beyond, the same rules we had until now still apply. In addition, you cannot add a subclass that has the same role (i.e. would awake to the same class) of your main (e.g. Archmages can't have Necromancer SubClass anymore).

Q: I also heard I can awake my subclasses, how is that?
A: Once one completes the Awakening quest, one can do the "Split Destiny" quest. All subclasses are capped at the max level 80, but, as a reward of that quest, you get to choose one of your SubClasses to lift its limits. Your subclass will be promoted to DualClass and will have a max level of 99, just like your main. It can also awake, meaning you will effectively have 2 awakened classes. You CAN'T lift the limits of a SubClass that has the same role (i.e. Awake to the same class) of your main.
After you have chosen your DualClass, you can level it up to level 85 and Awake it.

Q: What happen to my Dual and SubClasses Stats and Skills after the "Split Destiny" quest?
A: All Stats and Skill for your Dual and SubClasses stay the way they are (i.e Bound to the class ifself). Once your DualClass awakes, it will lose it's stats and receive the stats for your character main Race (e.g. The Dwarf that have a Dual Sagittarius will have Dwarf Fighter Stats with the DualClass Yul Archer, once the Saggitarius awakes). Also, your DualClass will have access to your Racial Skills just like your main, when it completes the Awakening.
Your other 2 SubClasses remain bound to their own classes (e.g. A Dwarf that has a normal subclass BladeDancer will have normal DarkElf Fighter stats on that SubClass).

Q: Talking about SubClasses, what happens to the SubClass Certified Skills?
A: All currently SubClass Certified Skills are being removed and all the Subclass Certified Skills will be revamped. All Transformations will be removed for good. Then every character can Re-certify ifself with the new skills.
Only Main and Dual Classes will benefict on the SubClass Certified Skills.
Here I present you a list for the new certified skills (This list data and format were provided by Draecke and adapted by me to fit here):

Q: How can I change between my Main, Dual and Sub Classes?
A: In your Character Stats Screen, you will have 4 buttons. The Red one represent your Main Class. The Blue one is your Dual Class. The other 2 green ones are your SubClasses. Clicking on the buttons will change your class. At that moment, all buffs are cleared and you will receive a de-buff that reduces temporally your stats and disable your attacks and skills. This De-Buff ("Identity Crisis" will last 15 seconds. After that, you are free to go. One can switch classes in almost every where.

Q: I read everywhere the Vitality and the Nevit Systems are changing. What's going to happen to them? P-L-E-A-S-E! I can't LIVE without Vitality Bonus!!
A: I know how the Vitality and the Nevit System helped and help players to level around, but yes, they are both changing. Let me cover this in parts (as Jack the Ripper once said).

Firstly, the Vitality System: On GoD your 4 different bars of Vitality will be changed to only one bar (Don't worry, it takes the same time to go from Full to Empty), and, provided you have at least 1 vitality point, you will get the same effect of the current Vitality Level 4 (+300% XP/SP). Once you are empty, it become vitality Level 0.
Also, this vitality bar will not regenerate itself while you are logged out or inside a peace zone like it used to. Hunting Raid Bosses no longer recovers vitality and Vitality Herbs no longer exist.
The only ways to regenerate this is waiting for a scheduled maintenance (every scheduled maintenance refill the vitality of every character) or using Vitality Related Items. Note that, apart from Birthday Cakes, you can only use up to 5 Vitality Related Items per week (this counter resets with the scheduled maintenance).
The final thought on the Vitality System in GoD is that, whenever you hunt certain monsters while having vitality points, the monsters you kill have a chance of dropping Weapon Pouch, Armor Pouch and Enchant Pouch. Also, when hunting in party, the more Vitality Points Combined the party has, greater the chance of additional item drops from the monsters it kills.

On the Nevit System, it's simpler: It will be removed as a whole. Priest of Blessing no longer respawn and all Nevit Bonus and effects no longer exist. The existing Nevit Related Items are kept but have their effects changed. The Nevit's Hourglass gives a 50% XP Bonus for it's duration and the Nevit's Voice gives you 10 Recommendations for you to give and refund you 100,000 adena. The Recommendation System remains the same (but without the Nevit's Recommendation XP Bonus), except that you will lose only 5 Recs a day (instead of 20). Recommendations will only make your name blue, at least for now.

Q: I don't buy you! You are just a Speculator! Where did all this come from?!?
A: Sorry if you don't believe in me, but these are facts and numbers written by official staff and trusted players that have seen it working either in NC Soft Korea Servers or Innova Russian Servers and reported they to us. You can check the sources for yourself, if you want.
